Our Story

Two friends, one dream, a thousand cups.

Nikos and Maria met studying architecture in Thessaloniki, bonded over bad university coffee, and made a pact: one day they'd open a place that did it right. In the spring of 2019, they found a sun-drenched corner in Koukaki, painted the walls terracotta, and Kafeneio Lofos was born.

Every bean is sourced from small farms across Ethiopia, Colombia, and Guatemala. We roast in small batches with our partners at a local Athens roastery, and we brew each cup to order — no shortcuts, no burnt edges, no rush.

The hill (lofos) in our name is Filopappou, just five minutes' walk away. We like to think our coffee gives you the energy to climb it — and the excuse to come back down.

"My morning ritual for three years running. The flat white is the best in Athens — I've tried them all. Nikos remembers my order before I even reach the counter."

"I've visited specialty coffee shops across 30 countries. Kafeneio Lofos belongs in the top five. The cold brew tonic on a hot Athens afternoon is an experience you owe yourself."

"The space itself is a work of art — warm, unhurried, and full of light. I come here to think, to sketch, and to drink the most honest cup of coffee in the city."
